more fun with photos

I got some more of my photos from mom's visit uploaded... This one is from dinner at the Waldheim after going to the Porche Museum. I was wearing really dangly earrings, and Brandon kept trying to put them inside my ear, which tickled, and, well, you can see what happened. He'd been doing it all day, but instead of getting annoying, it just got funnier.

I've been trying to get a picture of this face for weeks... It's so precious!! But of course she only does it for a second at a time, and I can't just sit and let her cry while I spend forever taking pictures, so it took a while for me to finally capture it. She's so cute when she cries!

Today was her 2 month check up. That wasn't so bad. She's doing great, according to her doctor. She's gaining weight nicely--can you believe she's just over 11 lbs now? I knew she was getting heavier, but sheesh!! She's going to need to go to a new diaper size again soon. (Kara, I might have some more diapers to give you!) She's also grown a full inch in height, from 21" to 22", all in only a month and a half. So the check up was fine--it was the immunizations that were awful. She cried, I cried... But it's all over, and once we get through tonight (she's still kind of fussy, I think because the leg that got the tetanus shot is sore) it will all be just a bad memory. Until her 4 month check up, anyway.

Mom's Visit

Well, Mom and Wade are off exploring Rome now (they got to go to Mass, said by the Pope, at St. Peter's yesterday) and I'm trying to get used to having a quiet house again. I so was not ready for them to leave! But all good things must come to an end, and we really did have a fantastic time while they were here. I have the pictures to prove it! I'm still trying to get them all uploaded. (Feel free to have a look-see, they're all in May sub-albums.) Anyway, as much as I miss them, it does feel good to just...relax.

Fun with Mom

I'm loving having my mom here! We've taken a ton of pictures, but I haven't had time to post any of them. They'll be leaving for Rome in a few days though (boo! it hasn't been long enough!) and I'll be able to post pictures. And a few interesting stories. :)

And now, Mother and Daughter

My mom finally dug out and scanned some of my baby pictures for me, so here is the much requested comparison between mother and daughter. Not a whole lot of resemblance here, either, but I wasn't really expecting any. She looks too much like her dad to take after me much. I do think we have the same hairline, but I definitely had a lot more up top than she does. (The poor thing has tons of hair in the back, but almost none on the top/in the front.) What do you guys think?

And yes, before you ask, my little dress and hat were handmade. My Gramma Short crocheted them for me. I'd thought this was from my baptism, but Momma says it was my first Easter. I was about 1 1/2 or 2 months old in this picture.

Happy Mother's Day!

We didn't do anything special for Mother's Day. (As a matter of fact, Brandon forgot that his wife is now a mother, an oversight which I can assure you will not be repeated.) We still had a really good day, just being together. Bran agreed to play photographer for me, and we went out into our yard (which, remarkably, I had never done before since the landlords live on the ground floor and I've always considered it their turf) and took some pictures to commemorate my first Mother's day. I think they turned out really well, even if Elora did snooze through most of the "shoot". The poor thing, she was sleeping soundly until I got her up to put that dress on her, and she went right back to sleeping soundly as soon as I got her back into a comfy onesie and laid her back down. Brandon makes a pretty good photographer, doncha think? :)

Like Father, Like Daughter

Pretty crazy, right? She really does look just like her dad. I've asked my mom to scan and send some baby pics of me, but she hasn't had a chance to do it yet...

Elora's First Real Bath

I can't believe I let this go so long without posting! What can I say, though? I've been thoroughly preoccupied with my daughter.
I dated this April 26, since that's when it happened, even though you and I both know that isn't when I posted it. So, just pretend that I'm a good little blogger, and posted it when I should have. Please?

Anyway, of course I'd bathed her before this, but I'd only given her sponge baths. At first, it was because her little cord stump hadn't fallen off, and then I wanted to make sure that her belly button was all healed. And then...well, and then I was just anxious about having her sitting in water and I decided that Brandon needed to be present for her first bath. I know, I know...totally over cautious. But it was definitely worth it, because now I have these awesome pics of my baby's first bath, which she didn't like at all. She showed her displeasure by not only crying the whole time, but also by pooping in the water, which of course made it necessary to start all over. Subsequent baths, though, have gone just fine--no crying, and no poop.
